Rose Honored For Museum Work

Rose Honored

Larene Rose receives a certificate of appreciation for her efforts to establish a B-29 Museum at the former Pratt Army Air Field. Presenting the award is George Stevens, President of B-29 Museum Inc.

Pratt, Kan. — Oct 26, 2011

Larene Rose doesn’t care for the spotlight but for a few moments Wednesday she was the center of attention at a short ceremony to honor her efforts to make the B-29 Museum a reality.

George Stevens, President of B-29 Museum Inc. presented Rose with a certificate of appreciation for her contributions to the B-29 Museum project. She has worked many hours giving of her time towards the day when the museum becomes a reality.

Rose is the widow of the late Gene Rose who was a staunch supporter of the museum and worked hard to help make the museum a reality as well. Gene loved to carve wood and one of his favorite subjects was airplanes. He also carved other items including a fire station and a fire truck.

To honor her husband, Rose donated his collection of carvings to the museum. They will be on display in the museum as a lasting tribute to him and the dedication of this couple to make a lasting depository of information about the Pratt Army Air Field that was in service from 1943 to 1942. It was the first B-29 training facility for pilots, flight and ground crews.
